Costs
Introduction to Costs and Fees
While care may be subsidised, all residents are required to pay a basic daily fee, which is set by the Department of Health. An income-tested fee or accommodation payment may also be deemed payable by residents with higher income resources.
The basic daily fee is set at 85% of the single person rate of the basic aged pension and is adjusted in March and September each year by the Department of Social Services. It is the same for singles and members of a couple.
There are protections in place to ensure that care is affordable for all residents. The Commonwealth Government recognises that not all residents can contribute to the cost of the care they receive and provide subsidies to assist with these costs.
